Guide to Plus Size Lingere and Full Figure Lingere

Lingerie is a term used to describe women's fashion undergarments. These are not the same as functional undergarments like a bra, girdle, slip or panty.

The term is derived from the French word 'lin' meaning 'linen', and applies to all undergarments of the male or female sex. However, in English it refers only to women's undergarments designed to be visually appealing and erotic.

Modern Plus Size Lingire and Full Figure Lingire are manufactured from materials such as silk, lace, satin, leather and pvc. The sexy styles of today range from "delicate and demure" to "racy and extreme".

What types of lingery are available to a plus size woman or full figure woman? The following are some of the different types of lingere and their associated descriptions :-

Accessory - is part of a costume ensemble used to enhance the experience of a sexual fantasy or roleplay. Choose from a selection of "Whips", "Blindfolds", "Hats", "Armguards" and "Chokers".

Baby Doll - a short nightgown with bra-like cups, flowing skirt and a matching thong or g string. Often referred to as a "Nightie" or "Negligee" and is typically intended as nightwear for women.

Bodystocking - is an erotic garment similar to a leotard or a catsuit. It usually has long legs; may have long, short, or no sleeves and is made from a sheer fabric similar to those used for stockings.

Bra - is the most common piece of lingerie. They provide support and enhance a woman's breast. The different types include "Push-Up", "Demi-Cup", "Shelf", "Underwire" and "Minimizer".

Bustier - is a form-fitting bodice with bra-like cups and reaches down only to the ribs or waist. Its primary purpose is to push up the bust by tightening against the upper midriff while gently shaping the waist.

Corset - is a garment worn to mold and shape a woman's torso into a desired shape. Features include boning, removable garter straps and front or back lacing. Primary fabrics used are Satin, Leather or Patent.

Costume - is a style of lingerie usually worn for living out a sexual fantasy or roleplay. These range from comparatively modest dresses to transparent chiffon nightgowns or outright racy ensembles that cover almost nothing.

Dress - is a garment consisting of a skirt with an attached bodice or with a matching bodice giving the effect of a one-piece garment. These are designed specifically to be sexy, erotic and revealing.

Garter Belt - is basically used to hold up stockings. It is worn around the waist and has two or four garters on each side. They can be more comfortable and a better alternative to girdles or pantyhose.

G String or Thong - is a narrow piece of garment that passes between the buttocks and is attached to a band around the hips. The primary difference between the two is that a g-string has less material between the legs.

Skirt - is a tube or cone shaped garment which hangs from the waist and covers all or part of the legs. They can be risque garments barely covering underwear when standing or seated.

Teddy - is an garment which combines a camisole and panty in one piece. Teddies are designed for visual appeal and as practical clothing. Available in either loose or form fitting styles.

Plus Size Lingere or Full Figure Lingere is women's lingerie, sizes 14W and up. The W stands for "Women's Sizes" and these are usually sold from a separate department or store. Plus Size Lingire or Full Figure Lingire is generally available in either numerical sizes (14,16,18) or by X. With most traditional plus size or full figure brand stopping at either a 3X or 4X.

If you wear these sizes then you are considered a plus size woman or full figure woman. The harsh truth - the fashion industry is biased against a plus size or full figure. Why is this? Well, they don't consider you to be a million dollar market that will generate significant profits to recover their investments.

If you wear these sizes then you are considered a plus size woman or full figure woman. The harsh truth - the fashion industry is biased against a plus size or full figure. Why is this? Well, they don't consider you to be a million dollar market that will generate significant profits to recover their investments.

Therefore, almost all of the marketing and designs you see are geared towards what the industry perceives as average. That is, a size 6. While the typical fashion model is a size 2 or 4.

Pop quiz: What is the average women's size in North America today? Do you know? Yes, you way in the back - the average women's size in North America is 14. Correct!

Go into a typical lingere store in North America and look at their line of Plus Size Lingera or Full Figure Lingera If they have a selection then you might be lucky to find something that looks good. (But this is not always the case.)

Ok, so you managed to find a sexy looking number and take it with you to the changing room. Do you find yourself holding in your breath to shrink down to size 10 or 12 in order to pull it over those curvy hips. Next, you try to get the nice store clerk to help you. You ask, Do you have this in a size 14 or 16? They answer, sorry we don't carry those sizes or everything we have is on the rack. You know, the usual the reply.

Why squeeze into an outfit not made for you ?

Well, the good news is: You Don't Have too! The first step to finding the right plus size fit is to look at the company's marketing - their advertising images and showings. If the models look like your skinny 16 year old daughter then that company will not be able to help you.

That's not true you say! Ehmm, first and foremost, you need to see what the lingery looks like on a plus size woman or full figure woman before you even consider buying. If they don't have the marketing and advertising then move on to the next store.

Thankfully, there are a handful of companies manufacturing and advertising Plus Size Lingery or Full Figure Lingery comparable or even sexier, rivaling what is advertised on those skinny models. In addition, the marketing is structured for the plus size woman or full figure woman.

This is a recent change in the industry, within the past 5 to 10 years. These companies have taken a long close look and recognised this sector of the industry, altering their advertising images and showings. We can hear you say, "well, that is not so recent". It is a new trend if you consider the overall history of the lingere industry.

A quick history lesson: firstly, the word lingerie is a term for women's undergarments usually referring to a bra, girdle, slip or panty. Secondly, up until the mid 1900's no one bought lingerie to be seen in it. Much less thought of lingera as visually appealing or erotic. Lingire served only one purpose - functionality.

It wasn't til the 1960's when major lingerie companies started marketing lingere as being visually appealing and erotic. These companies and their size 6 models made the industry what it is today. With their skewed marketing and flashy advertising making everyone believe a size 6 was average. Here's a new flash :-
